There are series that begin with explosions, chases, and spectacular scenes. Legends chooses the exact opposite path. From the very first episode, it becomes clear that it is not interested in impressing with flashy moments. It wants to build tension slowly, methodically, and most importantly, humanly.
I started watching the series these days.
The first episode takes us to Britain in the early 90s, when heroin had begun to flood the country. But instead of following the criminals, we meet a group of ordinary customs officers who are called upon to become something no one has prepared them for: undercover agents within the country's most dangerous gangs. The story is based on real events, and this adds even greater weight to every decision and every glance.
What won me over the most is that the series does not portray the protagonists as superheroes. They are people who make mistakes, are afraid, and know that a single mistake can mean their end.
tom burke carries almost the entire episode on his shoulders, excellently portraying the agony of a man who must build a new identity without losing his true one. steve coogan, on the other hand, puts aside his comedic side and delivers an unexpectedly restrained and serious performance.
