MY VIEW

A masterpiece that leaves you in a state of constant shock!

The Game · 1997

And there in lies for me a great part of the movie's magic. Fincher isn't merely interested in pulling off a twist ending on you. He forces you to spend almost the entire film inside Nicholas's mind. You see a man who believes he has absolute control and watch the slow, agonizing collapse of that belief. Money, which at first gives him power, becomes almost useless when he finds himself alone in a diner with just a few coins in his pocket. His home, supposed to be the safest place in the world, turns into a home invasion scene. The people he trusted become suspects. And reality itself takes on the logic of a nightmare

It's not just a film with a good twist.

It's a movie that does the exact same thing to the viewer that CRS does to Nicholas: it gradually strips away your sense of security, makes you question what you're seeing, forces you to keep going even when you think you've figured out what's happening, and in the end, reveals to you that the whole thing was a massive game played with your perception.
