Mini Bio

Vassilis Charalambopoulos is one of the most established Greek actors of his generation, with a career spanning more than three decades across theatre, cinema and television. Born in Athens in 1970, he graduated from the Drama School of the Athens Conservatoire in 1992 and began his professional career in theatre that same year. Since then, he has built an extensive body of work that includes classical theatre, contemporary plays, feature films and some of the most successful Greek television series of the past decades.Theatre has remained an important part of Charalambopoulos' career throughout the years. His stage work includes productions such as The Maids, Just Divorced, Cooking with Elvis, The Frogs, Mamma Don't Run, The Bacchae, King Lear, Thesmophoriazusae, Night of the Radios, The Rainmaker, The Birds, Lysistrata, The Servant of Two Masters and Cyrano. His collaborations have included several of Greece's leading theatre directors, among them Sotiris Hatzakis and Giannis Kakleas. His performance in Aristophanes' The Frogs, staged by the National Theatre of Northern Greece in 2003, earned him the New Creator Award from the Union of Greek Theatre and Music Critics. Several years later, his performance in Lysistrata was recognised with the Ancient Drama Award of the same critics' association. His theatrical career has also included the title role in Cyrano, a production directed by Giannis Kakleas that became one of his most recognisable stage performances. The production's original run received several Audience Theatre Awards, including Best Actor for Charalambopoulos. His transition to cinema produced another significant chapter in his career. His film credits include E-Mail (2001), PO 20 (2004), Loafing and Camouflage: Sirens in the Aegean (2005), Five Minutes More (2006), Bank Bang (2008), I'm Dying for You! (2009) and What If... (2012). He has also lent his voice to the Greek versions of animated films, including Garfield, Garfield 2 and Ratatouille. One of his major film milestones came with Five Minutes More (Pente Lepta Akoma), for which he received the Best Actor Award at the Thessaloniki Film Festival in 2006. The film became one of the notable Greek productions of the period and further established Charalambopoulos as an actor capable of moving successfully between comedy and more dramatic material.Television has been another defining part of his career. He first appeared on television in the early 1990s and went on to participate in numerous successful Greek series. Among his most recognised television roles are Crimes, You Are My Mate (Eisai to Tairi Mou), Dog's Life, The Ten, Working Woman, My Name Is Vangelis, Deka Mikroi Mitsoi, The Best of Our Years, Postcard and The Essential Light. His role as Grigoris Kapernaros in You Are My Mate became particularly memorable, with the series running from 2001 to 2002. He later appeared as Michalis Foudoukos in the television adaptation of The Ten, a role that earned him a Best Supporting Actor award. His television work has consistently demonstrated the range that has characterised his career, from broad comedy to more restrained dramatic performances. After more than a decade away from a regular television series role, Charalambopoulos returned to the medium with Rififi, directed by Sotiris Tsafoulias and produced by Tanweer Productions for COSMOTE TV. In the six-episode crime drama, he plays Nikos, one of the seven central characters whose lives converge around the 1992 Athens bank heist.Nikos is a 45-year-old former graphic designer and house painter who has become unemployed following the death of his wife from heart disease. Devastated by the loss, he has become increasingly isolated and sees the heist not simply as a criminal operation, but as a dangerous final opportunity to regain a sense of purpose and dignity. He is one of the core members of the group responsible for carrying out the plan through the tunnel beneath the bank. The role represents a markedly more dramatic register within Charalambopoulos' television work. Rififi places the character's grief, isolation and desperation at the centre of his story, requiring a performance built less around the overt comic timing for which the actor is widely known and more around restraint and emotional detail. His interpretation of Nikos became one of the most discussed performances of the series following its September 2026 television broadcast.Charalambopoulos' career is distinguished by the unusual breadth of his work. He has moved comfortably between classical and contemporary theatre, mainstream television comedy, dramatic television, feature films and voice acting, while maintaining a substantial presence on the Greek stage. His collaborations with directors such as Giannis Kakleas and Sotiris Hatzakis, together with his long-running work in television and cinema, have made him a familiar figure across several generations of Greek audiences. With Rififi, Charalambopoulos adds another demanding dramatic role to a career that has continually moved between comedy and drama. As Nikos, he becomes part of the human core of Sotiris Tsafoulias' reconstruction of the 1992 Athens heist, bringing to the series a character whose personal loss is inseparable from the extraordinary decision that ultimately draws him into the robbery.
