Virgin Games

Virgin Games, later renamed Virgin Interactive Entertainment, was a major British video game publisher and developer founded in 1983 as part of Richard Branson's Virgin Group.The company became highly influential during the 1980s and 1990s, publishing and distributing popular titles and ports across various home computers and console systems. Among its best-known releases were Golden Axe, Cool Spot, and Disney's Aladdin.In 1999, Interplay initially acquired approximately 43.9% of Virgin Interactive. The French company Titus Interactive subsequently gained control of Interplay and, at the same time, began acquiring shares in Virgin Interactive. In April 2001, Titus purchased the remaining stake in Virgin Interactive held by Interplay, making Virgin Interactive a wholly owned subsidiary of Titus Interactive.In 2003, Titus renamed Virgin Interactive as Avalon Interactive. Titus subsequently experienced severe financial difficulties and filed for bankruptcy in 2004, while Avalon Interactive's UK operations were gradually wound down through the mid-2000s.
